This course explores political and social issues, current affairs, and how decisions affecting society are made. You will gain an understanding of how democracy works in the UK and how it could be improved. You will also analyse the views of different political parties, individuals, and groups.
The first year focuses on British politics, while in the second year, you will study US politics. Politics will help you make more sense of developments in the UK and internationally, whilst stimulating you to think critically and consider different points of view.
This subject has plenty of progression opportunities as universities appreciate the critical thinking skills that you will develop on this course. At degree level, this course mixes well with subjects such as history, economics, business, sociology, international relations, American studies, and politics.
The skills developed in this A level are suited for careers in journalism, legal professions, teaching, management, and social work. It’s also highly recommended for students wanting to study degree level law. Past students have progressed to higher education institutions including Cardiff University.
